Flag Football

Smithsburg Youth Athletics (formerly CSL) flag football will enter its eleventh season this fall with two divisions for players age 6-14.  Six teams comprise the junior varsity and include players age 6-9 (grades 1-4).  Three varsity teams are comprised of player’s age 10-14 (grades 5-8).   All players who sign-up are invited to tryouts.  Unlike other leagues ALL players who tryout are drafted onto a team.  Flag football is played with limited contact.  Emphasis is on teaching individual skills, football fundamentals, team work, rules and sportsmanship. Games begin after Labor Day and will continue for seven to eight weeks depending on a bye week.  Games are held on Sunday afternoons at Old Forge Elementary school .  The season concludes in early November with all-star games.  All participants are selected to play all-stars with teams broken into smaller age groups.  6 & 7 year olds play against each other while the 8 & 9 year olds compete. A similar attempt will be made with the varsity groups.  Following the draft, players will be contacted by their coach.  Practices begin in mid-August and will be held twice a week at Old Forge Elementary School . There are no residency requirements to participate.

Registration:

 Eligible player must be between the ages of 6-14 on or before August 1, 2009

  • Attach a legible copy of player’s birth certificate
  • Please attend the open registration and tryout on August 8 from 6 to 8 PM at Old Forge elementary.
• Returning players
  • Make sure you note the team played for last year

• Registration Fees are $50.00
  • Make check or money order payable to Smithsburg Youth Athletics (Do not send cash)

• In order to have this program continue, we WILL need parents' help in any capacity (i.e. coaching, refereeing, etc.), please note this on the registration form
