Any registrations after that date will be assessed a $20 late registration fee and will only be accepted if there is space available on a team.

SYA will be offering the following teams for the Fall 2008 Soccer season.

IN-HOUSE: Registration costs for In-house players will be $35.00.  This includes soccer socks, shorts and a shirt.  In-house teams play between 8 and 10 games a year and have a tournament party at the conclusion of the season.

TRAVEL: Registration costs for travel team players will be $50.00.  This includes the costs for registration with our League, the State, and Paid Referees.  Travel teams play 8 games.  Uniform costs for Fall Travel Players will be $25.00 ( if needed ).  Returning travel players can reuse their uniforms, if the uniform fits and is still in good condition.  Some Travel Teams choose to play in additional tournaments during the season.  The costs for these tournaments are not included in the registration fee.

Practices will begin in mid August with games beginning in September. The season will run until around the first weekend in November.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!!!!

SYA is an all-volunteer organization.  SYA cannot exist without the contributions from all its members.  All families that participate are required to help in some manner.  Below is a list of ways your family can contribute.  Please indicate on the registration form a first and second choice for how you family can help.  Are most critical need is for coaches and assistant coaches.  

Head Coach:  The head coach is responsible for organizing the practices and coaching the games.  The coach should have a basic understanding of the game and its rules.  Approximate time commitment is 2-3 times per week for 1-1 ½ hours for 10 weeks.  

Assistant Coach:  Helps the head coach with practices and games.  Fills in when the Head coach cannot be there. Approximate time commitment is 2-3 times per week for 1-1 ½ hours for 10 weeks.  

Team Manager: Works with the coach to organize the practice schedule.  Contacts the parents for the coach.  Organizes snacks and drinks for after games.  Helps with equipment and uniform issues.  Approximate time commitment is 1 hour per week for 10 weeks.  

Team Sponsor:  Local businesses and organizations sponsor SYA teams.  This sponsorship allows SYA to lower the registration fees.  The cost for one team is $175.  Sponsors for in-house teams have their business name and logo on the shirts.  All sponsors receive a picture plaque at the end of the season.

Field Maintenance:  Help to prepare the fields for the season by setting up the lines, painting goals, installing nets.  Keeps area around goals trimmed.  Repaint fields as needed.  Helps with seeding and fertilizing at conclusion of season. Approximate time commitment 3 times per season for 2 hours.

Concessions:  Help to purchase and prepare food for end of season tournaments.  Help to organize and run concessions at tournaments.  Approximate time commitment 2 days for 6 hours.

Referee:  Referee our in-house U8 and U10 team games.  Need to have an understanding of the rules of the game.  Experience as a player, coach, or training as a referee.  Approximate time commitment 1-2 hours per week for 8 weeks.  

Field Marshal:  Attend home travel team games.  Make sure that fans stay in designated areas during game.  Ensure that fans support their teams in a positive manor, and that they do not disrupt the game. Approximate time commitment 4 games per season.  

Steak Feed:  Help to organize, and work at our fall fundraiser at the South Mt Rod and Gun Club in the fall.  Approximate time commitment 2-3 meetings prior to steak feed for 2 hours and day of steak feed for 4 hours.  

Assistant Soccer Director for In-house:  Help director to organize teams, find coaches, and create game schedules, registration.  Approximate time commitment 2-3 hours per week for 12 weeks.  

Assistant Soccer Director for travel teams:  Help director to organize teams, find coaches, and create game schedules, registration.  Attend monthly FCYSL meeting when director cannot attend.  Approximate time commitment 2-3 hours per week for 12 weeks.  

Registration:  Create, copy and distribute fliers to all Smithsburg area schools.  Answer questions at registration sign-ups.  Return phone calls for interested players.  Enter data into database.  Help with mailings for non-returning players.  Approximate time commitment 2-3 hours per week for 3 weeks in May – June.  

Training Coordinator:  Create training class for in-house and travel coaches.  Should have good knowledge of the game or contacts with someone that has a good knowledge of the game.  Approximate time commitment 2-3 hours twice during the season.  

SYA meeting representative:  Attend the monthly SYA meetings on the first Sunday of each Month at 7pm at the Smithsburg Fire Hall.  Keep your team parents informed of what is happening with the league.  Approximate time commitment 1 hour per month 11 months per year.  

SYA Committee:  Participate in one of the SYA committees during the year.  Approximate time commitment 2 hours per month 11 months per year.
