Softball

The Smithsburg Youth Athletics Instructional Softball Program just completed its third season.  The program is unique in Washington County offering instructional softball opportunities to girls between the ages 5-8.  Registration occurs in February and March, with the season running during the months of March, April, and May. Uniform shirts, hats, trophies, and a year end pizza party are provided as part of the registration fee. 

Team sizes are kept at a minimum with a goal of between 7-9 players on each team.  All players participate as batters in each inning, and play in the field each inning.  Score is not kept during the games.  The league uses a pitching machine operated only by coaches.  The machine throws a modified ‘softer’ softball - fast pitch style at approximately 25 mph.  

Safety is a priority and there have been no children injured during any of the three seasons!!  All games and practices are conveniently located at the Smithsburg Sluggers Baseball fields, located at the rear of the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Department.  

Each season the practices / games have occurred on Wednesday evenings between 6-8 and Sunday afternoons between 1 & 3 p.m.   There are no residency requirements and we encourage children from other communities to participate in our league.
